COURSE OFFERINGS FOR THIS FALL:

RECORDER CLASS: grades 1-3
Not just an excuse to squeak on a plastic toy! The recorder is a serious instrument with a proud history. Markus Bishko's time-tested curriculum will guide the students on a magical tour of the flauto dolce ("sweet flute," as the recorder is known in Italian...).
Superior soprano and alto instruments available at low prices.
FOLK BANDS: 
Everywhere in Alaska, folk music is HOT. Young Alaskan bands like Bearfoot Bluegrass, The Emeralds, and Ahave Raba are winning national awards and tours before they're even out of high school! Festivals, dances, and jam sessions abound. What are you waiting for? Come learn to play Irish, Scottish, Old Time, Blues, Klezmer and other popular Folk styles.
Bands will be formed by age groups, instrumentation and ability level.
Field trips to local jam sessions and dances.
Special workshops with Alaska's top folk artists young and old.
Top bands will be selected to perform at the Anchorage Folk Festival in January 2005
TEEN CREATORS: 
Are you a song writer? Improvisor? Just like making stuff up? In this band you'll get the tools you need for maximum self expression. Learn the music theory, and then put it to work and CREATE!

Musical Liberation through the
Native American Flute

The Native American Flute is enjoying a phenomenal creative renaissance throughout the world. Unlike most instruments which require years of training, the Flute satisfies both the absolute beginner and virtuoso player with its mesmerizing tone.
Markus shares his vast knowledge and experience as a teacher, performer, composer, improviser, and musical adventurer to guide you on a journey to your musical soul.

FLUTE FOLK
A weekly workshop of
traditional flute music
Ever wonder what it would be like to play your flute just like singing, anything that comes into your head, without a music stand in front of your face? Wouldn't you love to jam along with those flashy fiddlers or funky folksingers in the vibrant Alaskan folk scene? Or even just play along with your favorite CD?
Then join us this Fall, for Flute Folk! With Anchorage and Valley Locations. In the style of the Alaska City Folk Arts Camp, we'll explore Irish, Scottish, New England, Klezmer, and other flute traditions. World-renowned folk flutist Markus Bishko will teach you the trick of the trade:

Special Guest artists-including kids your age!-who have "made it" on the folk scene will join us from time to time for extra tips, pointers, and just plain jamming!

KLEZMER KALEIDOSCOPE
a weekly workshop of traditional Yiddish music.
Have you been playing a musical instrument-any musical instrument -at least 2 years? Looking for fresh, rollicking, passionate music to play? Curious about the Jewish music of Eastern Europe? Like to kick up your heels and dance every once in a while?
Then join us this Fall, for Klezmer Kaleidoscope. Anchorage and Valley Locations. Led by world-renowned Klezmer, composer, author, multi-instrumentalist and pedagogue
